Trade never stops. Automated vehicles navigate Shanghai's ports in pitch darkness, trucks queue endlessly, towering cranes move like the arms of a giant insect. But one ship sits motionless just outside the port, the crew abandoned. Through their conversations with a tender union representative and observational footage taking us on a voyage around our world’s cargo ports, the film examines the global machinery of maritime commerce and the rare pockets of human existence in the world of pure economic efficiency.
